MicType for iPhone — Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 6, 2026

MicType is a local-first voice keyboard. Core principle: your voice and text belong to you.

  1. We collect no personal data, run no servers of our own, and do not track you.
  2. Voice & transcription. By default, recording and speech-to-text run entirely on your device — audio never leaves your device and is never uploaded. If you explicitly enable the optional Cloud recognition and accept its separate audio consent (see the next item), your recordings are sent for transcription to the AI endpoint you yourself configured; you can turn it off at any time, after which recognition is fully on-device again.
  3. AI features (optional). When — and only when — you actively use polish / translate / rewrite / voice command, the app sends the specific text you dictated or selected — and, only if you separately enabled Cloud recognition with its own audio consent, your recordings for transcription — using your own API key, directly from your device to the third-party, OpenAI-compatible AI endpoint you configured (for example OpenAI, another provider, or your own self-hosted server). This text is used solely to return the processed result to you. MicType has no servers of its own and neither relays nor stores this text. Because you choose and control which endpoint is used, that third party's collection and use of the text is governed by its own privacy policy and security terms; we recommend reviewing the privacy and security terms of the provider you configure before enabling AI. Cloud recognition is off by default, shows a dedicated consent dialog before any audio is sent, and automatically falls back to on-device recognition on any failure.
  4. Microphone. The microphone is captured only when you tap the record button. iOS shows the orange microphone indicator while a session is active; capture stops when the app is closed.
  5. Keyboard Full Access. Used to read the local transcription result from the app (via App Group) and to call the AI endpoint you configured. The keyboard does not record audio and does not upload keystrokes.
  6. Local storage. Your API key is stored in the device Keychain; your input history and vocabulary stay on your device.
  7. Children. MicType is not directed to children and collects no data from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above. Material changes will be reflected in the app's release notes.
